Wendy and I are having a nice Saturday dinner at home and thought it would be a great time for a quick and totally random Saturday evening blog post ('cause we are so weird like that). The subject of conversation during tonight's dinner -- "favorite songs."

\

We use music in so many ways, and so often we use it as a soundtrack to our lives. When we hear a favorite song it reminds us of where we were, who we were with, and how we felt at the time. From sadness to complete and utter joy, the songs we love help us to hold on to the feelings we had at those moments that define who we are.

Tonight, over a bottle of wine (2005 Peju Cabernet Franc) and a homemade dinner (mediterranean quinoa stuffed red peppers) we've been quizzing each other on our favorite music. Using our whole house audio (which makes it even more fun and nerdy), we've been picking tracks from Spotify and trying to guess each person's favorites. (Don't forget, a little wine makes the whole process more fun.)

So here's a little insight into the minds of Alex & Wendy.

Wendy's Favorite +Live+ Song (as guessed by Alex):

Mostly because it was our first dance song at our Wedding.

Alex's Favorite "Dancin' and Sing Along" Song (and voted my "favorite" by Wendy):

Wendy's All Time Favorite +Live+ Song (since +Live+ is her favorite group of all time like from forever):

Are you sensing a theme with Wendy?

Alex's All Time Favorite Song of All Time:

This song was such a favorite of mine that when my Sunday School teacher asked me what my favorite church song was, I told her "Another One Bites the Dust." I was a smart kid.

Wendy's Favorite Dave Matthews Song:

Full disclosure, it did take me like five guesses before I got this one.

Our Theme For Our Life:

So what are your "life songs"? Which songs make you feel wonderful, sad, nostalgic, invincible, etc? And which ones just make you feel like getting up and dancing around? Do you know your spouse/partner/best friend/kids well enough to guess or know their favorites? It makes a fun dinner time game, I assure you.

DMB You & Me is the first song on my labor and delivery playlist that my husband made for the birth of our second son. It brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!

We do a lot of "remember when" which is funny because a lot of times our memories of something are different.

I think it's really interesting when that happens too! Or if Alex remembers something that I've totally forgotten!

That's one of the things I love most about being together for such a long time -- having such a history with someone that they can remember back to our high school prom. :-)
