All day I've been a giddy as a camel in an insurance commercial. Seriously, ask my annoyed co-workers, I've been this way all day long.
Mike, Mike, Mike, Mike, Mike, guess what day it is!!! Guess. What. Day. It. Is!
That's right, folks! We've got ourselves a good old fashioned DC metro area snow storm a brewing. And like every overhyped weather event in DC, I'm super excited for the potential of what might come. So excited, in fact, that I'm setting up our snow cam once again and plan on blogging the fun that is sure to ensue!
At this point, without a massive and historic snow storm, I can only be let down.
When it snows a ton I'm happier than a polar bear in a blizzard. I grew up around snow, and now that we're "southerners," and the whole climate change thing seems to make big storms fewer and farther between, I can't help but get all unnecessarily excited and overly hyped up.
Tonight's storm is supposed to kick off in just a few minutes and last through the night and into tomorrow, bringing as much as 10" of snow or more!
Our last snow storm was okay, but not spectacular. We did a time lapse movie to show the progression.

Here's to hoping this one will pack a bit more of a punch and bring with it a whole boatload of the white stuff. It may well be our last chance at snow for the season, so why not make it a good one.

It's official, the government is closed tomorrow, so much of the area will be enjoying a snow day. I'm really hoping for a good amount of snow tonight and tomorrow so I can go out and take some solid snow photos. I also hope our lovely Lulu will get to run out and romp around a bit in some fresh powder before any rain starts in the morning. If we're really lucky we'll not have our snow totals cut short by any mixed precipitation.

After what started as an incredibly promising snow storm last night, one that had amassed an impressive 6"-7" of accumulation by sunrise this morning, has more or less fizzled out now that temps have begun to creep up. We're now looking at pretty steady rain/feezing mix. In other words, where we could have had a good 10"-14" of snow, we'll now likely sit at this amount for the rest of the day, and miss out on the snow fun since it's just dreary out.
Lulu is evening refusing the go to the bathroom because it's raining. She loves snow, sure, but she hates rain more.
This is all thanks to an imaginary line that more or less follows the I-95 corridor. Those of us to the east of it always seem to get far less snow than our neighbors just to the west. This is a simple case where 10-15 miles makes a huge difference in snowfall accumulations. Harumph.
The good news is that we have power, heat, lots of bread and toilet paper, and we might get a little more later in the day once it cools a bit again. But my snow hopes and dreams for a massive dumping of snow have been essentially quieted.

Though the storm isn't finished, it's complete in my eyes. Why?
Because Pat Collins and his snow stick is doing his thang on Channel 4! Storm. Complete.
Lulu and I ventured out at about 2:00 pm today for her daily Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy help her burn and I was shocked by the roads. Not about the snow, or lack of snow, but the fact that there were so few people on The Beltway (I-495). On any normal day it's packed with cars at pretty much any time of the day or night. But today, it felt like I was back in my hometown in Cleveland taking one of the local highways from town to town. Honestly, I could get used to traffic like today's.
Lulu had a little issue finding a place to take a bathroom break before her appointment. While we only got about 8" of snow in our neighborhood, her vet saw more in the realm of 14"-17".
Don't worry, she eventually found a place to go.
We've got a little more snow headed out way, and the temps are dropping, so it looks like we might well see a few more inches. But I can't help but feel like we missed out on the really good stuff when all of the rain came into the region throughout the day. If it had been about 5 degrees colder we would have had another 8"-10" of snow.
